I have just come back from going on a cycle tour around the Netherlands, this was an amazing experience in which I combined my love of cycling and travelling. One key aspect of going on a cycle tour is the fact that you have to carry your belongings on your bike with the handy design of panniers. However, as I learnt, there are essentials you need to pack and certainly things you can live without. Here is a packing list of what I would advise to pack (and what I'm going to follow the next time I go)...
TOILETRIES
- Mini shampoo and conditioner
- Dove soap (can be used to wash your face and body)
- Travel toothbrush and mini toothpaste
- This works roller-ball (a good idea for all of you that suffer from getting to sleep in new locations, this scent will relax you and help you drift off)
- Sanitary towels (to wear in your cycling shorts to keep them fresh)
- Roll on deodorant (I tend to opt for the mens version as the scent is stronger and I find it lasts longer)
- Roller-ball perfume (optional, but this is only small and it will make you feel fresh in the evenings)
CLOTHES
- Three cycling outfits: padded shorts, cycle top and sports bra (one for wearing when you set off, a clean set and a set which may be wet)
- One nice dress for evenings
- Pants and cycling socks
- Pjs
- One fleece
- Waterproof jacket
- Swimming costume
SHOES
- Cycling shoes
- Sandals (waterproof and old)
ETC
- Portable charger and leads
- Compact hairbrush
- Microfiber towel
- Harribo
- Little bit of makeup (this is optional, but make-up is only small and its amazing what a lipstick can do when you go out for dinner in the evenings after a long day of cycling)
So there is my cycling tour packing list, some things are definitely optional but this is what I will be following the next time I go on another cycling adventure.
